*****NOTE: Cal Trans has recently repaved the top portion of the course. While this is a good thing....the pavement is a little soft, the white fog lines haven't been painted(as of Sunday) and they've left the orange plastic bollards in the middle of the "bike lane" in spots. BE CAREFUL - especially when descending. I rode the course last weekend and, although I found the pavement to be brand new, the bollards were a hazard descending. Just be careful and keep your eyes open!!

****BIG CHANGES THIS YEAR - PLEASE SEE READ CAREFULLY:

***DUE TO ALCOHOL BEVERAGE CONTROL LAWS HERE IN CALIFORNIA, SIERRA NEVADA BREWERY IS NO LONGER ALLOWED TO GIVE OUT BEER TO THE WINNERS OF THIS EVENT. HOWEVER, $35 SIERRA NEVADA GIFT CARDS WILL BE GIVEN OUT - BUT, AGAIN UNFORTUNATELY, CAN NOT BE USED TO PURCHASE BEER. SORRY - THIS IS AN ABC LAW/REGULATION, NOT SIERRA NEVADA BREWERY - BUT THE BREWERY MUST ABIDE BY THE ABC LAWS & REGULATIONS. THE GIFT CARDS CAN BE USED TO PURCHASE ITEMS IN THEIR GIFT SHOP, OR TO PURCHASE A MEAL IN THEIR RESTAURANT.

**********If you win a $35 Gift Card from Sierra Nevada Brewery, they will be available for pick-up at the Sierra Nevada Gift Shop starting one week AFTER the event!!!!! This means Monday, October 3rd , 2016 - PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE GIFT SHOP EARLIER THAN OCTOBER 3rd, 2016 AS THEY NEED TIME TO GATHER THE RESULTS, GET THE GIFT CARDS PRINTED OUT AND ORGANIZED. ID will be required at the Sierra Nevada Gift Shop in order to pick-up your Gift Card.

YES - This is the BIG ONE - THE most rpopular Hill Climb Time Trial of the entire year!!! A HUGE Thank You to our sponsor - Sierra Nevada Brewery  for sponsoring this awesome Uphill Time Trial each year!!!

If your time beats your age, you win a $35 gift card from Sierra Nevada Brewery(which can be used to purchase items in their gift shop or restaurant - but no beer). Unfortunately, NO cash prizes this year.....sorry, but my extremely limited budget will not allow me to give out cash this year. I am sorry. :(  If any company or individual would like to step up to offer cash prizes to the Top 3 Men & Women in the competition, please e-mail me at RodneyJCox@gmail.com.

This event is FREE to enter! No, no membership in any club is necessary, so come on out! Registration will open at 7:30AM at the corner of Bruce Road and Hwy. 32 - come EARLY if you want to get an early start on the climb......we usually have between 60 to 80 riders at this event. I will probably be there around 7:30AM to set up the registration table and set things out.......but please be patient. Ice water, bananas and cookies will be provided at the finish. We will have ice water and bananas at the start as well.

The first rider will take off at 9:01am and we will go in 1-minute intervals, as we've done since the beginning. The climb itself is about 11.2 miles in length and climbs approximately 2,100 feet. For a map of the Forest Ranch Time Trial course, please see the map on this page.

HELD RAIN OR SHINE!
HELMETS ARE MANDATORY!

***IMPORTANT RACE NOTES:

****As mentioned above, due to Alcohol Beverage Control laws/regulations in the State of California, NO beer will be given out by the Brewery - nor can the $35 Sierra Nevada Gift Cards be used to purchase beer. The ABC has been really cracking down on breweries in the last few years, and Sierra Nevada MUST abide by all the laws & regulations set forth by the ABC. I am sorry - PLEASE don't blame Sierra Nevada or complain to them - they are just following the law.

****RACE NUMBERS WILL BE ISSUED THIS YEAR, SO PLEASE PIN YOUR NUMBER ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR JERSEY SO WE CAN SEE IT AT THE FINISH LINE! A LIMITED NUMBER OF PINS WILL BE AVAILABLE, SO PLEASE USE SPARINGLY. ALSO, NO NUMBER AT THE FINISH = NO RESULT. SORRY. AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, DO NOT FOLD OR CUT YOUR NUMBER - IF I CAN'T READ YOUR NUMBER AT THE FINISH, NO RESULT WILL BE ISSUED...NO EXCEPTIONS.

****PLEASE NOTE: REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE PROMPTLY AT 8:59AM!!! NO LATE REGISTRANTS THIS YEAR. YOU CAN COME EARLY, SIGN UP, THEN HEAD BACK HOME OR WARM-UP AROUND STARTING AREA....BUT PLEASE DON'T BE LATE FOR YOUR START TIME. NEW THIS YEAR AS WELL - ANY RIDER "CUTTING" IN LINE AND RIDING ON THEIR OWN WILL NOT BE IN FINAL RESULTS - SORRY...TOO MUCH CONFUSION IN PREVIOUS YEARS TO CONTINUE THIS PRACTICE. WE'VE HAD ISSUES IN MULTIPLE YEARS WITH RIDERS WHO SIGN UP LATE AS WELL - SO, NO LATE SIGN-UPS....SORRY.

**********If you win a $35 Gift Card from Sierra Nevada Brewery, they will be available for pick-up at the Sierra Nevada Gift Shop starting one week AFTER the event!!!!! This means Monday, October 3rd, 2016 - PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE GIFT SHOP EARLIER THAN OCTOBER 3RD, 2016 AS THEY NEED TIME TO GATHER THE RESULTS, GET THE GIFT CARDS PRINTED OUT AND ORGANIZED. ID will be required at the Sierra Nevada Gift Shop in order to pick-up your Gift Card.

****PARKING: If you choose to drive your car to this event, please note that parking MAY be limited this year due to construction vehicles at the Registration Area at the corner of Bruce Road & Hwy. 32. We should have enough room, but you never know.

****RESULTS: Results will be available the night of the event - probably late though as I have a family, responsibilities, so on and so forth. Sierra Nevada Brewery, again, will NOT have the Gift Cards ready for the winners until Monday, October 3rd, 2016 - this gives them time to prepare the gift cards, etc. Please....no whining and most certainly don't give the Brewery any grief!! ALSO - VERY IMPORTANT - RESULTS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY ANYMORE. THERE ARE TOO MANY RIDERS, TOO FEW VOLUNTEERS, ZERO BUDGET - SO......I DO THE BEST I CAN WITH WHAT I HAVE AND DOUBLE AND TRIPLE-CHECK ALL OF THE TIMES WHEN I GET HOME FROM THE EVENT. DON'T EXPECT A RESULT AT THE FINISH LINE - I WON'T HAVE THEM UNTIL LATER IN THE DAY

TIMING - Okay.......almost everyone nowadays is using a GPS, a cycling computer, a power meter, whatever. Know this - the TIME that you get in this Time Trial is what we(myself and our volunteers) have on our clocks/stopwatches. We use multiple stopwatches, a clock, and our time is the "official" race finish time. We use back-ups in case one of our stopwatches breaks - and we always double-check with the clock to make certain everything is legit and calculating correctly. Yes - I realize that your GPS says you got a 54:25, and we have you finishing at 54:37. I know that is a frustrating experience as I've experienced it first-hand as both a participant and a promoter However....unfortunately......our time is "official" and final. We WILL correct any glaring errors - but we won't change the time because your Garmin says this, but our stopwatches say something different. I am sorry. It should be noted that most times we had last year and years prior were totally spot on with various GPS units and cycling computers at the event. But a few couldn't understand how their GPS says one thing and our watches say another - let me tell you, my personal GPS units have been "off" multiple times on multiple segments in both running, walking, cycling and hiking. Anyway, just a note about timing - sorry for the ramble.

****For the men, the rider MUST beat their age in order to win a $35 Gift Card from Sierra Nevada Brewery. So, if you are a 49-year-old man, you need to get a 48:59 or quicker in order to win the gift card.

****For the women, we instituted a 6-minute rule years & years ago.....so, if you are a 49-year-old woman, you must beat 49+6 = 55 minutes......or 54:59 or quicker.

"What if I am a 55-year-old man and I get a 55:00 in the Time Trial - do I win the $35 Gift Card from Sierra Nevada??"

Sorry...no Gift Card. MUST beat your age outright. Remember - this is a low-key event and we do this for fun, fitness and trying a new(or recurring) challenge!

"Rodney, I'm 28-years-old....there is NO way I am going to win a $35 Gift Card from Sierra Nevada. Why do this event??"

This is one of the most epic local "races" on the calendar and has been going on for the last 37 years!! AND - it's FREE TO ENTER!! Come on out and give it a shot. Set goals for yourself for next year - and the years to come!! Many many riders have done this event through the years and use it as a gauge for fitness and fastness. ;)

And, a final note, please.....no whining. This is a FREE event -  myself and the other volunteers & sponsors do this for free and for fun. We don't have time or energy to listen/put up with whining. Anyone giving grief to myself, our sponsors, or any volunteer - in any way - will be disqualified immediately. I can't stress the following point enough - ANYONE CAUGHT GIVING GRIEF TO SIERRA NEVADA BREWERY WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED AND BANNED FROM ALL FUTURE FOREST RANCH TIME TRIALS!!!!
